Shepard Automotice was founded by Spencer Shepard in 1998. As a child he spent much of his time watching his father repair customer cars and rebuild classic cars in his garage in upstate New York. He learned car repairs from the man who is still the best machanic he has ever known and helped in the business through his graduation from college. It was during this time that he learned the mechanics of every automobile, and learned how the right care and knowledge could extend the life and performance of any car or truck.
He had a career in the corporate world manufacturing and repairing power generating equipment for General Electric and Westinghouse. During that time he continued his involvement in automobile mechanics by restoring cars and by involvement in several car clubs and automobile related organizations. He raced cars in The Sports Car Club of America and vintage racing clubs and continues to do so. He has cars under restoration including several Corvairs, a '69 Camaro, two Crosleys and a BMW Isetta. He races a Corvair Yenko Stinger in SCCA and Vintage events. He is a Professional Engineer in 2 states, has BSME and MSME degrees and is past Charirman of the Piedmont Carolinas section of ASME.
He was "downsized" when the Westinghouse turbine operations were purchased by Siemens in 1998 and decided to stay in this area rather than to move to another city. The primary considerations were his children who were in college at Duke and UNC at the time and an opportunity to excercise his passion in car repair full time.
He has built the business by adhering to the principals his father taught him including treating people fairly and honestly. It hasn't always been easy and the biggest challenge was finding mechanics who shared his enthusiasm for the profession including the desire to provide excellent service at a fair price. The current staff, Ed LaRock and Andres Lucero, worked together before joining the team and are motivated by the challenge of properly diagnosing a problem and repairing it in the most efficient manner.
